Shipping Wholesale Orders From Turkey: Air vs Sea vs Land

Logistics guide · Updated 2026 · HowBuy.it Blog

Once a wholesale order is purchased and inspected in Turkey, the next decision is how to ship it. The right freight method depends on order size, budget and how quickly you need the goods. Here is how the three main options compare.

Overview

MethodTypical transit timeBest for
Air freight2–6 daysSmall, urgent or high-value orders
Sea freight15–40+ days, depending on destinationLarge volume, cost-sensitive orders
Land freight3–10 daysDestinations in Europe and nearby regions

Air freight

Air freight is the fastest option and the easiest to plan around, which makes it a good fit for sample shipments, urgent restocks or lightweight, high-value products such as textiles or accessories. It is the most expensive method per kilogram, so it works best for smaller wholesale orders rather than full container loads.

Sea freight

Sea freight, either as a full container (FCL) or shared container (LCL), is the standard choice for large wholesale orders because the cost per unit drops significantly at volume. The trade-off is transit time, which can range from around two weeks to a destination like the Gulf region to well over a month for further destinations, plus time for port handling and customs clearance on arrival.

Land freight

For buyers in Europe, land freight by truck offers a middle ground: faster than sea freight and generally cheaper than air, with the added benefit of door-to-door delivery without a port handling step. It is one of the most commonly used methods for European wholesale buyers sourcing from Turkey.

Choosing the right method

In practice, many wholesale buyers combine methods over the life of a supplier relationship: air freight for the first trial order to move quickly, then sea or land freight for repeat wholesale orders once the product and supplier are confirmed. Consolidating goods from multiple Turkish suppliers into a single shipment, regardless of method, also reduces the freight cost per unit.
